What is a Landscape Architect?
Landscape architecture is a branch of architecture that deals with the design of outdoor spaces. These spaces can be commercial, public, or residential. The most obvious and often impressive examples of landscape architecture can be found in nearly any public park. But today we are going to discuss residential landscape architecture and why it is important.
But before we begin, let us address some common misconceptions about landscape architects. Perhaps it is due to the fact that they spend their days outdoors or that they work with their hands, but there is this perception that they are not real architects. When the truth is that landscape architects must not only have a degree in landscape architecture, but they must also pass a licencing exam.
Because there is a definite dearth of large gardens in the cities, landscape architects do most of their work in the suburbs. They also often own their own businesses and many of them are willing to take any job no matter how big or small. Like the artists and designers they are, these trained professionals will often procure all of the materials and objects that they need, such as rocks, soil, garden furniture , etc., on their own.
What next? Well, a landscape architect will consider a number of important factors, even on a small job. First and foremost, since most of them are nature lovers, they do not like to disturb the natural balance of the yard or landscape by changing it too much. Instead, they will add a number of design features such as walk ways or patios as well as flowers and plants.
Nowadays, most landscape architects, like traditional architects, must be computer literate because they are expected to use architectural design programs to plan their projects. They also utilise a program called geographical information systems (GIS), which helps them determine exactly where they should plant trees, bushes or flowers.
