Some people have it and some people don't – that's a fact of life. What I mean by this is that some people have the knack of making their homes look like they have been worked on by the top interior designers, whereas other people are less gifted with the end result that their house looks dated, contrived and just that little bit naff.
The gift of interior design is partly innate, as you have the flair for it naturally and yet some of the skills can be learned either though books, the internet or courses.
But however much you study books and interior design magazines, if you do not have the natural flair for it then the end result will always be one step short of perfection.
There are several skills to interior design, including a vivid sense of imagination as gifted designers can picture the room finished while others can only see it in its bare form.
Courage is also required as many of the best designs I have seen are totally out of this world, blending styles and colours that I never would have dreamt of would work together and yet combine to form a perfect result.
